pressure regulation and sound in pipes
« on: July 06, 2015, 02:39:35 PM »
Hi.
I visited an industry where in pressure regulation section they reduce natural gas pressure from 150 psi to 70 psi. It was too much noise there that once can hardly stand near it. why is that so?

In the expansion, the gas acquires speed, and the resulting turbulence is noisy. Same as at an aeroplane engine, with nearly the same pressure.

Though, the expansion can be engineered to reduce the noise, if this matters.
