Changes in carbonate system with heat
« on: July 13, 2015, 12:23:51 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me what happens to the carbonate system when the solution is heated. Is there a way that the concentrations of the bicarbonates, carbonates and dissolved CO2 can be calculated?

I have a solution at around 40oC of which I know the concentrations of the bicarbonates, carbonates and dissolved CO2 and it is then heated to temperatures around 100oC.

I know the first and second dissociation constants as well the dissociation of water will change and the solubility of CO2 will decrease with an increase in temp which shifts the pH to being more acidic.

Thanks
