any idea what is this molecule?
« on: August 30, 2015, 10:19:37 AM »
I am playing Dear Esther to write an article (yes, I am back to being paid for playing ;) ). During the game in several places there are molecules painted on the rocks. Three of them were rather simple - ethanol, serotonin, dopamine. But this fourth one is difficult as many atoms are marked as N, while most of them are probably just carbon. Upper part seems to be just dopamine, so perhaps it is some dopamine derivative? Does it ring a bell to anyone?

I'm not sure I understand - why would they be marked N (3N?) if they are only carbon?

Licentia poetica. Something like a molecule drawn from memory without understanding what it really is. I believe these 3N marks don't mean anything, the only thing important is a structure/skeleton (and whoever painted them didn't know why in the original some atoms were marked as N and some were not marked at all).

Edit:

why would they be marked N (3N?) if they are only carbon?

I don't think they are ONLY carbon, I think most of them are carbon, but some can be N or O.

That's how the dopamine was painted in another place. The ring has two double bonds, so technically it is not a dopamine - but my bet is that it is just a lousy painting.

Dunno if it helps or hinders, but it looks more like Hebrew aleph than N. And the other letter could be gimel: אגּ "AG" = silver? Hardly likely! Perhaps it's not meant to be a proper chemical structure anyway.
