Mass Spectra and Elemental analysis in RSC

Hey guys!

I am having trouble writing my lab reports for my course. As part of the requirements, it says that I need to present my elemental analysis and Mass spectra data in RSC style.

These are what I have so far: the empirical formula is C8H7NO4, which has to be written in the form Found: C, .; H, .; N,. O,.. C8H7NO4 requires C, 53.1; H, 3.9; N, 7.7; O, 35.3;. I managed to find the required part as it was already given but cannot determine how the "found" part is calculated.

In terms of mass spectra, I have no idea how it should be written or layed out in rsc style but, this is the data i was given
182 (8.7)   
181 (100)
167 (3.4)
166 (50)
136 (6.0)
135 (80)
123 (6.5)
122 (90)

I dont need the actual answer given to me, just explanations or guidance would do on how to present or calculate these experimental data

Did you get elemental analysis on your compound? Usually in my experience it is given back in the same format

What do all the different peaks represent in mass spec, for instance 181 is your molecular ion, 166 M-CH3, etc.

Unfortunately, no I didnt do an elemental analysis run, which leaves me wondering how could I include in the report with just required values?

About the mass spectra. Oh right I see, but would I have to include the isotopic mases too such as 182, 167 etc...?

If you didn't do elemental analysis, I'm not sure how you can report it. You may just have to miss that part out.

I'm not sure if the 182, 167 etc are isotopomers. How did you run the MS?

The mass spectra data was also given to us therefore I do not know how it was run.
