Strength of Acid factors?
« on: September 29, 2015, 07:48:49 AM »
Hey all! I was just wondering what is more important in determining a molecule's acidity: elemental effects or resonance effects. I know, all other things equal, molecules in the Iodine end of the periodic table are most acidic because their conjugate bases are most stable (and the same with resonance stabilized molecules), but which "rule" rules?

Thanks!

The reactivity of something depends on what it's in.  Would Iodine have a stronger affinity for a proton in n-hexane or in DMSO?
