Calculating mols?
« on: October 06, 2015, 06:10:51 PM »
Hey guys, I completely forgot what you do before you calculate mols, for example I just did a question where the solid was Zinc and that was easy because all I needed was 1 atomic number but my next question is Na2CO3, I know you have to get the atomic weights of each element which I can do but do you add them all together after and divide or what? I completely forgot!

You had it correct to begin with -- to determine the formula weight of a compound, you sum the atomic weights of each element.  Assuming you don't look it up on Wikipedia, or read the formula weight off the bottle.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

No i dont want to cheat otherwise I will never know to do it myself. so basically you just add up all the seperate element atomic weights in Na2CO3 to find the total to then go on to do the mol formula? If so then great! :)
