Suggestions on synthesis: nitrile to carbonyl
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:46:40 PM »
My current species is a pyridine ring with an ether off the 2 position, I have a -CN off the 5 position, I'm wishing to convert the CN to a carbonyl. I know grignard is a useful method or acid catalyzed, I was hoping someone had similar experience in this reaction and provide a little guidance and tips for a successful yield. Thank you for any help

What kind of carbonyl, aldehyde, ketone, ester, amide, acid?
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

I'm terribly sorry, I should have specified. I would like convert into a ketone preferably, I want something on the lower end of electron deactivating.
