Hi Intanjir
Thanks for coming back and clearing a few things up. It is very helpful
_...
..
'Alanine' is alpha-alanine and not particularly related to carnosine and anserine.
Carnitine is not particularly protein-like. It is made from amino acids but they are not simply combined in the standard way for making a peptide.
Functionally it somewhat resembles glycerine in that it is a place for fatty acids to be attached. Fatty acids are attached to glycerine for storage and to carnitine for transport across mitochindria. ...makes sense to list carnitine near lipids, but it is not a lipid on its own.
Thanks for that. It puts it into nice easy terms which i can understand and really helps clarify the ideas that I have ( a bit mixed up currently ) about these things.
So it looks like the “story” is the following...
So I got confused with Carnitin as a protein as it is made from the two amino acids Methionin and Lysin. But you have explained it is not quite working in the classic “amino acid chain peptide things”, and in the practice it is sort of “neutral” for Nutritional considerations.  My Creatine may be OK in a "Peptide" section next to my Proteins section. But not  L Carnitin  - Like Glycerol it is what i might call a Fat like thing, and to be tacked on at the end of my Fats. This ties up nicely with what you have said.
In the body Carnitine it is doing something similar to glycerol in “carrying” things. Within the body what it is carrying leads to the many ideas about possibly being able to influence the metabolism encouraging energy use, helping with sport and diet etc etc..( and maybe our body agrees better with L type ? ) In any case for some reason it does not seem to be supplied pure. What we are given is L carnitine carrying Tartrate. ( Maybe alone it is unstable? Or someone thinks it encourages the carnitine to go to the right place as the body strips off ( burns away ) the tartrate. ?? ) In any case the occurance of Tartrate further makes the thing well listed tacked on the end of my Fats.
I am still trying out of interest to see theoretically how / what the particular  amount of Tartrate is carried per unit of carnitin. But for now Isee empirically it is about .47 tartrate to 1 L- Carnitin.

with my L carnitin pill Nutrition value the story is the following..
Magnesiumstearat_____ 2.27
L-carnitin  ____________58.24
Tartrate______________27.44
L-Carnitin Tartrate______85.58

Kcal per 100g  =  (3 x  27.44) + (  2.27 x 9.1  ) = 82.32 + 20.657 = approx 103

I am still not quite sure if my Magnesiumstearat is mostly stearat so we just are effectively doing 2.27 x stearat.
Or how the .47 comes Theoretically.
But i am certainly a lot further in getting all the contributions as  well as where best to put these things in my list

Thanks
Alan

Re gelatine ( Gelatin )  Pill capsule Nutritional info.
[/u]

@  Arkcon ( or anyone else that) may be able to help..

I was actually doing a wide search on the Theme of Gelatine, amongst others places in this Forum...
By coincidence I hit only 1 Thread in this Forum.. which was this one I started concerning Pill Capsule Cellulose Glycerine!!
So I thought before starting another Thread I would ask here: As I had landed here in such a search, then others could also in the Future looking for similar info.

Possibly the search came here  because of the info in this Post
http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=83937.0#msg304211

Based on the links I have there in that Post I wonder if someone could advise on the figures of Nutritional values per 100g for the material typically used in such gelatine capsules. In those links I see different values.

I have tried to contact some Capsule companies, but have no feedback as yet. I will feedback any info if I receive any.
I have tried Google / Wiki searches etc., but the , as in the above referenced links, are Conflicting

Thank you once again in advance
Alan Elston.

P.s. Once again, I emphasise  the figures I need  are for my own personal use as Benchmark. I have no Organic Chemistry Background.

Re: Pill Capsule Gelatine Nutritional Value

Hi,
Further to the question Gelatine Capsule Nutritional Value.
I have continued to search, and ask around, and I have been very surprised that this rather fundamental knowledge is not known., or at least easily available..
I may have some approximate values , so I share ..
Of the limited info that I have been able to find, the Nutritional values are looking like close to that given for pure Gelatine. So I am still not 100% sure that is what it is for a capsule, but For now:
I give the per 100g value and then two examples of the data which I am finding helpful. This would be the “to add to per 100g” final product, as i am finding that sometimes that  Nutritional values for a product will be given for a complete product that actually omit the capsule contribution.
My values are based on a combination of what info. I have been able to get, along with a lot of tedious physical measurements and calculation based on the Capsules full, empty, and with the material inside etc.. The Capsules with nutritional supplements in them are very broadly in the range of .65g – 1g.

For the  Nutritional Supplement Products I am working out that for the Capsule Gelatine has a weight pro 100g for the final product of between 12.3g and about 17.5g. This would then be responsible for the Capsule gelatine contribution I then add to the given data, for the cases it appears the manufacturers have omitted this data.

Sorry if these questions and results are unusual here: there really does not seem to be anywhere to get , what I would have thought was fairly fundamental info. Hopefully anyone in a search on Capsules may get some useful info here

Of course any additions or comments would be very welcome..
