Net Charge for Molecules

Hi Everyone,

Quick question regarding net charge. I've been doing some practice problems regarding the names and net charges of molecules. I'm curious if there is a way to find the net charge from the name. For example, if I was asked the charge on Arsenate (AsO4), would there be a way to find the charge?

Basically, do I need to memorize the net charge on molecules like phosphate, perchlorate, nitrate, etc.?

That's the simplest approach.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are sets of "rules" that can be used to predict these things, but they will be probably more complicated to remember and to use than just remembering several charges and formulas.

I assumed this was the case, but I wanted to ask and see if there was some method I wasn't aware of.
