Hydride Donation Spot Of DIBAL -H
« on: May 03, 2016, 10:35:56 AM »
I have read that iso-butane is the only alkane which can donate hydride. For example, during alkylation reactions with suppose 2-methlypropene to give 2,2,4,4-tetramethylbutane in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid or hydrofluoric acid.
My question is that ,can the iso-butyl group in DIBAL-H in electrophilic reduction reactions also donate hydride?

I question the truth of your first sentence.  When you look at the structure of DIBAL-H, what do you see?

Draw the structure of diisobutylaluminum hydride and try to identify the hydride that becomes donated.
