Hi everyone, I really need help with this question:

Write a balanced chemical equation for the oxidation of Fe(s) by concentrated nitric acid. Two products of the reaction are NO2(g) and Fe3+(aq).

The answer I got was 3 HNO3(aq) + Fe(s) + 3 H+(aq) :rarrow: 3 NO2(g) + Fe3+(aq) + 3 H2O(l) which is incorrect apparently so I am really confused as how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated

Write the two half-equations for Fe(s) and HNO3(aq) respectively first.
Year 1 science student in HKUST and a Chemistry geek.
If I make any mistakes in the forum, please don't hesitate to correct me as I want to learn.

Technically it is correctly balanced.

This can get quite tricky. Why do you think it is incorrect? Were you given some more details about what you are expected to do?

Assuming there is no other oxidizer but H+, where far would the reaction go?
