Bromine Water
« on: May 29, 2016, 08:18:42 AM »
Hi everyone,

I had an exam on Friday and one of the questions was "Bromine water is used to detect c=c in unsaturated solutions. Why would iodine not be used ?"

I wasn't sure about the answer but thought it was either that iodine is not very soluble in water or that it's not a very strong oxidising agent. Just wondered if anyone knows the right answer ?

Thanks

I think both of the reasons are correct.
