Equivalents

I'm doing an experiment for my research and am a little confused on something.

I'm starting with 3 grams of compound A. Eventually, after adding a few reagents over the course of a day and letting it sit overnight I'm forming compound B. The literature says instead of precipitating it out directly before the next reaction (which is just adding an amine) to add 1.25 equivalents of the amine directly to the organic phase to form compound C. How do I determine what this 1.25 equivalents is (in terms of mass of the amine to add) given that I never actually crystallized out compound B (to know what 1 equivalent is, if that makes sense). Do I do this relative to 3g of compound A? Confused. Thank you for any help.

Firstly work in moles.
Just assume that the conversion of A to B is 100% and add the corresponding amount of reagent to get C.
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
