Hi. What could be the correct approach to calculate the concentrations of H+, SO2(aq), HSO3-, SO23-, CO2(aq), HCO3-, CO32-, Ca2+, CaSO3.1/2H2O and CaSO4.2H2O in an experiment where SO2 is absorbed into limestone slurry. I am particular interested in the concentrations in all five cases of the experiment, namely: (1) Case 1: when the only solid in the slurry is CaCO3 (2) Case 2: when the two solids in the slurry are CaCO3 + CaSO3.1/2H2O; (3) Case 3: when the two solids in the slurry are CaCO3 +CaSO4.2H2O (4) Case 4: when the solids in the slurry are CaCO3 + CaSO3.1/2H2O + CaSO4.2H2O; (5) Case 5: when the solids in the slurry are CaSO3.1/2H2O + CaSO4.2H2O.

Similar work has been done by: Pasiuk-Bronikowska, W., & Rudzinski, K. J. (1991). Absorption of SO2 into aqueous systems. Chemical Engineering Science, 46(9): 2281–2291.

The difference is that Ca(OH)2 was used, instead of CaCO3. I do not understand the approach used in the article.
