Help me! Eugenol Concentration using absorbance
« on: October 30, 2016, 02:11:53 AM »
Hi please help me.

Im trying to calculate the percentage of eugenol in oil of cloves.

 7.7mg of eugenol was qs with 100ml of methanol and the absorbance was 1.2281

6.9mg of oil of cloves was qs with 100ml of methanol and the absorbance was 1.1871

the formula i know is that A1/C1 = A2/C2 --> 1.2281 / 0.077 = 1.1871/ x

but the answer seems so off because im getting more than 6.9mg. Can someone tell me what is wrong and help me get it corrected. Thanks very much for help.

2 points is to less. First you need a calibration curve of different amounts of Eugenol. If you have that you measure your sample and can find the concentration in the curve.

With only one point I got 7,4 mg instead of the 6.9 mg

That is what i got too. But after finding x, arent i suppose to do x amount of eugenol / 6.9 mg of cloves multiply to 100 = percentage of eugenol present in oil of cloves?

If i follow that formula, I will be getting more than 100%.

T___T im sorry im really lost with this calculation.
