Concentration of aspartame
« on: November 03, 2016, 06:35:16 AM »
I'm trying to solve an exercise where I'm asked what the concentration of aspartame (C14H18N2O5) is when 1.2 g of aspartame is dissolved in 5.0 dl of juice. I calculated the molar mass to be 294.304 g/mol. Then I solved that the amount of substance for 1.2 g is 4.0774 x 10^-3 mol and tried to solve the concentration c(aspartame)=4.0774 mol / 0.50 l ≈ 8,2 x 10^-3 mol/l.

I've gone over my calculations and repeated them twice but I always get the same answer yet the correct answer according to my chemistry book is 9,8 x 10^-5 mol/l

Such concentration as in answer needs over 40 liters.
