Making a solution
« on: November 24, 2016, 11:51:37 AM »
I´m answering questions in my workbook for chemistry. One of the question involves the salt FeSO4*6(H2O) (crystal water. How would I make a  0,500 L of 0,300 M solution from this salt?

I must add that the solution is from the FeSO4

How would you e.g. make a 1 litre of a 0.5 M solution of glucose?

He specified that the solution is a FeSO4 one, wouldn´t I need to seperate that from the water?

Calculate, how many grams of FeSO4 or FeSO4·6H2O you need for preparing this solution, then dissolve salt (or hydrate) in, say, about 300 ml of water, and after dissolution add more water enough to exactly 0.500 liter. Do all in 0.5 L volumetric flask.
This is  a very bad teaching example since this salt is very unstable in water, and even as solid (eventually it should be stored under nitrogen or argon).

You should know the meaning of Molarity to do this problem.0.3M means 0.3moles in 1L of water and 0.3 moles means 0.3moles* molar mass of FeSO4*6(H2O)
