Struggling with this lab
« on: January 14, 2017, 02:15:59 PM »
What color would result if you combine NaI with starch? Then what color would result if you combined that NaI and starch solution with bleach?

I did this lab in school but got nothing!? Not sure what I did wrong.

Then you should report what you saw.  If there are other questions to answer in this lab practical, you should give them a try.

I know its weird, to do something, and see nothing -- if you wanted to see nothing, you could have just stayed home.   So you're correct to suspect something is wrong.  But what else can you do?
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Check reaction of KI with bleach (important - small amount) without starch. Solution should be brown (if not - check identity of solutions). Then add starch.

Thank you so much! Do you mean add bleach?

An excess of KI is needed in relation to bleach.
