Effects of Methanol Temperature Changes on Concentration
« on: January 25, 2017, 03:55:31 AM »
Hi

I am working with Aflatoxin testing and there seems to be no mention in the procedure related to the working temperature of Aflatoxin samples suspended in 80% methanol solution.

Could someone please explain how fridge temperature affects working concentration of such a solution?

As methanol volume decreases with decrease in temperature, is it necessary to wait until the solution is back to room temperature, before talking an aliquot of that solution?

Will using the solution straight from the fridge affect the concentration as it affects volume once it is back to room temperature?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

My 'Guess' is that the concentration change will be minimal..  maybe even negligible - but if you have time then why not test it out to see if you get differing results between samples taken at different temperatures?
