What useful chemicals/products can LNG be turned into?
« on: February 03, 2017, 01:08:04 AM »
There is a gas plant. Everyday, the plant produces LNG as a side product. Now, LNG is not very expensive per tonne. I have been asked to find a chemical or product that LNG can be made into...such that this new product is more expensive than LNG. So that the gas plant makes more profit at the end of the day.

                            some process
LNG ---------------------->  New Product or Chemical

                                                                what could this be?

Thanks :)

You can produce nearly any hydrocarbon from LNG - plus all compounds obtained by reaction with air and water and carbon oxides, which are available for free, and so on and so forth.

"Product more expensive than LNG" is very broad too... The more difficult option would be if the process must cost less than the product's price.

If for instance you first introduce a double bond in the molecules, do you see families of products obtainable then?
