How to Brighten the Color of Pants Made of 100% Polyester?
« on: February 04, 2017, 12:04:14 PM »
Hi

I hope there is a chemical way to achieve what I am looking to do.

I bought these long pants which I really like their shape and size,
here is how they look:

They are blue, however it's dark blue.

Since I really liked their shape, I bought them anyway, in the hope that I can make their color brighter somehow..

The material they are made of is 100% Polyester.

Is there a way to make them a bit brighter?

Thank you all

I would probably start doing your research into that by searching for "mordant", "dye" and "polyester". There's a number of different types of dye and processes all with various pros and cons.

They might get lighter after a wash or 2...  or you could maybe try bleach? There is not much you can do to control the resulting colour though.  There is no other way to lighten the colour as far as I know. Nice strides anyway!
Tonight I’m going to party like it’s on sale for $19.99!

Thank you all

Dyes are not what I wish to do, since it will make the fabric more coarse..

The bleach direction was more of what I was looking for, since what i want is to get it brighter.

The problem is that so far, from my experience, Polyester never reacts to bleach.

I also tried it on a small part that I cut from the pants' pocket,
and indeed, no reaction at all..

So seems like these pants' color is not changeable..

Thank you for trying to help

They'll fade with time and multiple washes anyway. I wouldn't worry - they look fine.
