Formula for correcting ABV (Alcohol by volume)
« on: February 15, 2017, 12:41:25 PM »
Hi,
can anyone help me find formula, which would correct ABV, that is measured by alcoholmeter, which is calibrated for 20°C, but the mixture has different temperature?

I want to implement this calculation into program so I can not use alcoholometric tables.

I know this formula for density of mixture at 20°C, can it help me?

So e.g. I have measured 50%ABV at 10°C, tables would give me real ABV ==> 53,7%. Now I need to calculate this by formula. I will be very thankful for any help.

Thank you

Sure you can put tables into your program and interpolate between points.

Thanks for your answer.
Ok yes I can. But I don't like this too much, I mean if I cann't find the formula I will have to do that. But straight calculation would be more precise.
Here is a document that says (at page 5) table Vb gives alcoholic strength by volume as a function of density. Density is calculated with formula at page 12, but what would be that function of density?
Sorry I am not native english speaker and I may have overlooked something there.

Edit:
So table 5b is made by interpolation of tables 3a and 3b.
Table 3a is calculated from general formula so I know the specific number here.
Table 3b is calculated from formula q = (ρ2020(100%)) * p
and p is alcoholic strength by mass.
But alcoholic strength by mass should be in table 4b, but that table is created by interpolation of table 3b. So how can I find alcoholic strength by mass?

But straight calculation would be more precise.

You do realize these formulas are made by fitting some reasonably similar in shape function to the experimental data?

No I didn't. I didn't know if there is precise calculation or if it is based on empirical data. So best way is interpolation between already known values, am I right?

Either use tables and interpolation, or try to fit the data to your own function.

Thank you Borek, I will use tables and interpolate between values.
