Distillation - multicomponent mixtures
« on: May 15, 2017, 04:04:57 AM »
I am a chemical engineering student and i am having trouble tackling the problem below, mainly because i am yet to deal with multicomponent mixtures. Any sort of help would be much appreciated.

The feed to a distillation column has the following composition, mol%: propane 5.0, isobutane 15, n-butane 25, isopentane 20, n-pentane 35. The feed is preheated to a temperature of 90 degrees celsius, at 8.3 bar pressure. Estimate the proportion of the feed that is vapour.

The first thing I thought of after reading the problem statement was to calculate the q of the feed and from that value i could find the proportion of the feed that is vapour. But i have no idea how to calculate the q in this situation.
