The Leduc Plants

While there is very little information and history of the "Leduc Plants" you may find this experiment amusing and interesting.

Materials:

1g Copper Sulfate, Pentahydrate
2g Sugar
300ml Distilled Water
3g Gelatin
3g Sodium Cloride (table salt)
6g Potassium Ferrocyanide

Preparation:
Two solutions must be prepared for this experiment.  First the "seeds" have to be prepared and then the growing nutrient must be prepared.

Seeds:
Mix the Copper Sulfate, Pentahydrate and Sugar together with drops of Distilled Water to form a paste.  Roll the paste into balls and set aside.  You may consider grinding the Cupric Sulfate and Sugar to help with mixing.  Grind them separately.

Growing Nutrient:
Heat the 300ml of Distilled Water to approximately 70C.
Charge the heated water with 3g Gelatin slowly until completely dissolved.
Charge the solution with 3g Sodium Chloride and stir until fully dissolved.
Charge the solution with 6g Potassium Ferrocyanide and stir until fully dissolved.
Place the final solution on a cool surface and allow to cool to room temperature.

Charged four test tubes with growing nutrient and added seed. - Started stop watch to measure reaction time.

Summary:
After 11 minutes no visible reaction was noticed.

After 1 hour and 30 minutes one test tube is showing signs of "growth".

24hrs later the growth was evident and quite interesting.

That's interesting. The tube on the left looks a little sad though.  ;)

I guess we could refer to it as the "runt" of the litter.
