cleaning question
« on: September 22, 2017, 01:09:18 PM »
Hi there,
I have a small synthetic/cleaning question which I found in literature, but don´t understand it exactly. Primary amine is formylated with formic acid, solvent is removed and product is oil. "Oil is dissolved in CH2Cl2, washed first with dilute HCl, then with dilute NaOH, and finally once again with dilute acid."

I don´t exactly understand washing process with HCl/NaOH/HCl.

Am´I thinking right to suppose that I prepare amine hydrochlorid that go into water layer, next addition of KOH make free base go into organic and finally prepare stable amine hydrochlorid.

thx

"Oil is dissolved in CH2Cl2 and the dichloromethane solution of the oil, is firstly extracted with dilute aqueous HCl, then extracted with dilute aqueous NaOH and finally once again extracted with dilute aqueous acid (HCl)."
Your thought is right.
