Problem with iodine sublimation
« on: January 18, 2018, 10:35:12 AM »
Hello, I did an electrolysis of KI and now I have a solution of KOH and I3- anions. I want to preparate elemental iodine by sublimation but when I start heating the solution it starts sublimate iodine with water. H2O steam is with the iodine on a flask and then it condeses and take crystallised iodine back down to the solution. How I should extract the iodine without water ?

I would use a carbonhydrogen like Hexane to get the water rid of. The hexane can be removed by vaccuum.
