Hydrogen bonding
« on: February 21, 2018, 03:39:51 PM »
Why is H-bonding present in the straight-chain molecule but not the cyclic molecule? Does it have to do with proximity/sterics? thanks

The top molecule will have intermolecular hydrogen bonding, but not intramolecular hydrogen bonding due to proximity. H bonding is a pretty short range phenomenon.

The bottom molecule with have both inter- and intramolecular H-bonding.
