Determination of concentration of dissolved amides???
« on: April 04, 2018, 04:15:31 PM »
Hey guys!

I am completely stuck. Are there any laboratory methods for determining the concentration of trace dissolved amides in water? The range would be 0-2 mg/L of a mixture of long-chain secondary amides. Preferably any spectrophotometer methods not involving expensive equipment such as MS or GC :D Any help would be much appreciated!

Proteins are sometimes quantitated using the absorbance of the peptide bond at 205 nm.  It's not an easy measurement to perform, however, owing to being that far into the UV region.  Not including proline, peptide bonds are primary amides, but I don't know whether or not that is significant.
