Reaction between Glyoxylic Acid and Silver Ammonoum
« on: June 20, 2018, 10:12:09 AM »
There was a question on my exam asking for the organic products of various reactions with Glyoxylic Acid. One of the questions was: CHOCOOH + Ag+ / NH3
Would the silver oxidise the C=O group to COOH and then ammonium react with both COOH groups? I'm not sure, any help would be appreciated.

Yes, that's why I guessed the C=O group was oxidised to COOH
