Geometry of Ni(Et2en)2I2 ??
« on: October 22, 2018, 01:44:44 PM »
Hi Chemists,
I am currently going down a rabbit hole trying to find out the exact geometry of Ni2+ (Et2en)2I2. Literatures does not indicate a square planar whereby I2 are counter anions. Neither does it indicate tetragonal distorted geometry. I am not even sure if the coordination number for this compound is 6 or 4. Please pull me out of this hole please. Thanks!

Edit: Since this is a compound I have made in lab, it is actually orange in colour and not blue like what I have been seeing in literature.
