Hello everyone! I have an organic chemistry question and I hope you can help me.
I’m studying Medicinal Chemistry and I came across the Hofmann Elimination.
I know this is a stupid question, but I don’t understand why the electron-withdrawing group increases the acidity of the hydrogen.

If you draw the carbanion out, what could stabilize it?  How this stabilizes the transition state is perhaps a more subtle question.
