Theoretical Plates
« on: July 03, 2007, 11:47:37 AM »
Does anyone know formulas used to calculate the number of theoretical plates using data from a LC? I have N=L/H, where L is length of column and H is plate height. But can't find a formula for finding H. Would it be the Van Deemter Eqn? Should also mention I am given width at the base, retention time, length of column, flow rate and volume. Thanks.

I found one that should work.

N = 16 * (tr2/Wb)
