Orgo Textbook Complements
« on: January 14, 2007, 08:09:38 AM »
What are some good orgo books that complement the main orgo texts?

I am about to start my 2nd semester of orgo with the Vollhardt 5th edition book. I found this book on Amazon and it has gotten good reviews. However, it only seems to cover half of what is on my 2nd semester syllabus :-\

Any text suggestions that are buyable online would be appreciated!

For anyone's curiosity, here is what my professor will cover 2nd semester

Alkynes, Delocalized Pi systems, Benzene and Aromaticity, Electrophilic Attack, Aldehydes and Ketones, Enols,
Carboxylic Acids and Derivs, Amines, Benzene Substituents, Ester Enolates, and Heterocycles

I can't reccommend "Organic Chemistry" by Clayden, Greaves, Warren and Wothers highly enough.

I seem to be promoting this rather a lot lately-  maybe they should be giving me commission.... Hmmm.. maybe I'll have a word ;)

some good complimentary texts:

Carruthers, W.  - Some modern methods of organic synthesis
Mackie, Raymond K. (Raymond Keith) - Guidebook to organic synthesis
Sykes, Peter - A guidebook to mechanism in organic chemistry
Parsons, A. F.  - Keynotes in organic chemistry
Moloney, Mark G. - Reaction mechanisms at a glance : a stepwise approach to problem-solving in organic chemistry
