Title: Pb(OH)2 + NaOCl
Post by: Timothy on February 16, 2010, 01:22:01 PM
Hello

I am doing a 2nd year inorganic chemistry course. I am studying group 4 metals. I mixed Pb(NO3)2 (in about 25ml of H2O) with NaOH to form Pb(OH)2 and NaNO3. The solution then is mixed with HNO3. My question is, what is the product formed when Pb(OH)2 is mixed with NaOCl? Sorry I just realized, this needed to go into the inorganic section.
Thanks

Pb2+ can be oxidized with hypochlorite to PbO2, so probably  the same happens with Pb(OH)2:

Pb(OH)2 + ClO-  ::equil:: PbO2 + Cl- + H2O
