Title: What is a dipole moment?
Post by: Xeno Lunar on December 08, 2008, 02:44:16 PM
Can someone please explain what it's? I am confused by it

and what is the dipole moment for these two molecules?

SF6

IF5

I guess both of them have no dipole moment?

Dear Xeno Lunar;

In Chemistry Dipole Moment (DM) is the measure of “Polarity” (P).
You may search for both terms on the Internet.

One of your answer is right, one wrong!
For one a DM/P of: 2.18D, and for the other a DM/P of: 0.0D is reported.

Good Luck!
