strange reactions going on
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:30:37 PM »
Hi i have a question about some reaction taking place here and how to dispose of the bi product. I have copper chloride from echting circuit boards and wanted to get rid of the stuff but I am environmentally conscious and did not want to just dump it down the drain as is. So i added tin foil to the mix to separate the copper (school lab we had did) and of course it gave off all sorts of chlorine gas (at least i think that was the gas) and was left with a clear liquid. So i figured id add baking soda to the solution to lower the ph and the weirdest thing happen, it turned very light purple and extremely thick. Any reason why it turned to gel? Also is it still bad for the environment?

Thanks,
TroyC
