Need a sepparation membrane
« on: June 18, 2009, 12:55:06 PM »
Dear colleagues,
I need a membrane to sepparate an EtOH from water in vodka.
To describe the process I need to do in simple terms-I need to take a glass of vodka put in there the bottom-end of 7-10cm band of this membrane wait sometime till the fulids run up in a TLC-like procedure, then check with enzymatic reaction the upper end of the band.
The upper end of the band should be ethanol free-means only water fraction and evrything, dissolved in water(for example some charged compaunds, like carboxylic acids).
So, basically, Ineed a membrane in which ethanol would get stuck or run very very slowly, compared to water. Ineed the upper end to be ethanol-free for about 30 mins.

poresize is preferable from 0.2um to 0.45 um, however it's not a main issue

Anyone can suggest such a membrane? Where to purchase?

Thank you very much

Michael

Hi ,
why you don't use a chemical water absorbant material to broke the azeotrope to remove the water ?
where is my vote?
