question about amount of product that can be produced.
« on: February 07, 2010, 05:46:44 PM »
(a) Rust, Fe2O3(s), can be removed from basins by using the reaction
Fe2O3(s) + 6Na2C2O4(aq) + 6HCl(aq) ----> 2Na3Fe(C2O4)3(aq) + 6NaCl(aq) + 3H2O(l)
How many grams of rust can be removed by 500.0 mL of 2.84 M Na2C2O4(aq)?
Answer

How come limiting reagent is not considered here, is it because when dealing with conversion between reactants the limiting one does not matter.
question it self id simple convert mol of Na2C2O4 to mol fe2o3 and get mass

You just assume there is a large excess of rust.

The question is How many grams of rust can be removed by 500.0 mL of 2.84 M Na2C2O4(aq)?
and not How many grams of rust from a sample containing  ____grams of it can be removed by 500.0 mL of 2.84 M Na2C2O4(aq)?

I hope you get the difference.
