Just curiosity here. Suppose you have two hydrogen atoms; one atom has its electron in 1s, as usual; while the other has it in a 1p(just assumption, I know its not possible) orbital. Now suppose the atoms bond in a head-to-head overlap of the orbitals, forming a sigma bond. Now taking a plane, that runs through half the distance between the two nuclei, and is perpendicular to it; will be the charge density distribution about the plane be somewhat asymmetric, as in due to overlap of dissimilar orbitals(s and p, not s and s)? Need quick help, A-level exams.
