film flotation
« on: July 06, 2009, 09:41:10 AM »
Hello,

Searching the critical surface tension for calculating the contact angle of hydrophobized particles is done by film flotation ( = hydrophobized particles staying on liquid surface).

This liquid is methanol-water solution in the articles I have read.

My question is that, do these experiments working with the same reliability by using ethanol instead of using methanol?

Thank You for the answer!

Methanol and ethanol have slightly different surface tensions and therefore the specific mixtures with water will also have different surface tensions.  (~ difference ~ 2 dynes/cm)
