We are planning to use p-chloro-m-xylenol or "pcmx" as a biocide in one of our bathing solutions; however, we are not sure on how to analyze for it.
Given that it's boiling point is 246 deg C--it would seem unfeasible to test it using a gas chromatograph. Or would it be feasible? Has anyone ever attempted to quantify ''pcmx'' via GC? Or would a more suitable method be via HPLC since this cmpd is not easily volatized?
I have conducted a literature search on the cmpd but info is scant at best.
Any of you analytical chemists ever tried such?
Sincerely,
Golden

I recommend either heated purge and trap GC, headspace GC, or SPME GC.

thanky D.Shelley: I don't know what a purge n trap or spe GC are? I have only access in our lab to a agilent 6890 gc fitted with a capillary column; however, I shall aim to learn what the purge n trap, headspace are as types.
