Q: Anode material for electrolyzing NaCl aq other than Pt ?
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:01:57 PM »
For electrolyzing NaCl or KCl  (see http://misc.nicejewel.com/KClO3/) I used carbon rods which eroded dramatically after 24 hours of use, it was a nightmare to filter out the carbon remainders from the solution.
I am thinking about coiled Pt wire as an anode which cannot be attacke at all by the Cl2. But what about tantalum sheet which is far cheaper ? Is is also Cl2 resistant ?

Dear Skatebiker;

Take a view under: β€œCorrosivity To Metals” on:  "Chlorine Pure MSDS”.
(It’s not only cheaper!)

Good Luck!
