Title: Synthesis of 1,1dimethoxypropane
Post by: CharlotteBM on October 02, 2014, 01:21:50 PM
Hi!
Could any of you wise people help me, as I have used an unreasonably long time trying to figure out how to make 1,1dimethoxypropane from propyne.

My only suggestion would be to use H2 and Lindlar catalyst to make an alkene and then acid catalysed addition of an alcohol - but I am pretty sure that is not correct!!

Thanks in advance!

What functional group(s) does your product have?

What functional group(s) does your product have?

Only the two -OCH3 groups

Sometimes it is advantageous to work a synthesis problem backwards.
