Title: Miscibility of specific alcohols in water/cyclohexane...
Post by: Byrne on October 23, 2005, 01:46:43 PM
I just wanted to confirm my results before I finalized my lab report...

Are alcohols insoluble in water?
Are alcohols soluble in a substance such as cyclohexane?
When alcohols are mixed with water or cyclohexane, should they exhibit and basic or acidic properties?

I do not expect you to help me out with the following, but the alcohols involved were ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, and 3-methyl-1-butanol... I have some uncertainty in my observations as there were some cases where it was difficult to determine whether or not mixed chemicals were exhibiting solubility or not since we were using such small volumes.  Thanks in advance.
