binding a chromogenic substance onto a surface

Is it possible to attach a chromogen onto a surface (eg glass, silicone, teflon etc) without altering its properties?

No, paint doesn't count. I refer to chromogens that converse into coloured compounds when activated by an enzyme(such as New Fuchsin)
