Electrical Potential - only hints, no answers please!
« on: April 30, 2008, 10:59:59 AM »
Hey all, I have been troubled by this question for the past few days. It would be great if you guys can give me hints / strategy as to how to solve the questions, but not the direct answer :p

Given that the potential of calomel electrode is 0.268V and the E cell (calomel electrode, 0.500 mol / L NaCl) = 0.270 V, calculate the activity of Chloride ions in the 0.500 mol / L NaCl solution

I am thinking, since there is a current flowing, therefore something must be reduced / oxidised in the NaCl solution - but what?

Thanks in advance!
