Hey everyone,

I'm having some trouble with the reaction between p-cresol and ethanol in acidic medium..Do you guys have any idea what results from these? I'm not sure if the ethanol reacts with the aromatic ring, with the methyl group or with the hydroxy group..

Step 1: Try to draw the mechanism of an alcohol or a phenol protonation in acidic medium.
Step 2: Can protonated alcohols or phenols react with other alcohols or phenols in acidic medium?
Step 3: If they can, what is the obtained product?
Step 4: And then, what side products might be expected?
