Title: BF3 OEt2 Purification
Post by: JurusGomes on October 26, 2019, 10:18:21 AM
If any of you have worked with boron trifluoride dietherate, and what type of purification process you used.

Everything online/literature says to distill over CaH2, but I was curious if I could distill off any water present and store over sieves. That’s what I usually do when literature says distill over CaH2 instead.

This will he used for a series of Mukaiyama aldol reactions. If any of you have any tips of that as well I’ll take them. Thanks!!

BF3*Et2O will probably react with sieves, the sieves can act both as acid and base. Why not follow the standard procedure and distill?
