The Scooby Snack system appears to be gone.  :'(  Well, I guess it was irksome, in many regards.  But it was nice to know, in advance of searching all posts, whose input was widely valued, and whose wasn't.   However, if it's not gone for good, I have some ideas:

1).  Limits:  Another forum I frequent had a star system.  You could get a maximum of 5 stars.  It was an average of your votes, so it was a slow progression, and an even slower downgrade.  'Course that forum dumped it's award system as well, so maybe that's not such a great method either.

2). Logarithmic progression:  First ten Scooby Snacks count as 1, next 100 count as 2, next 1000 count as 3  ... but you can still lose them at a 1 for 1 vote.  It will keep people, like, me, for example -- polite, while the best posters are gradually rewarded.

3). Currency:  You can give or take Scooby Snacks, but either one costs you one.  The only people bankrolling the currency, that is they have a small supply to start with, is moderators.  Because they have, pretty much, been chosen for the value of their input.

Ehh, they where a waste of time. I never payed attention to them. Young ones that just want their homework answered would take one away if you asked them to show work. A lot of people would never give them. So really, it was not really any good way to judge, unless they where only allowed to be given out by privileged members. But then, whatever.

If you help somebody or learn something, that is all the reward you need.

Yea - I had 6 or 7 untill I was a bit sarcastic to some guy who couldn't work out why his hot acetone was getting lighter. Then I had 4.  Then I had a misunderstanding with a guy who writes really annoyingly in multicolour and I went down to one. I took a couple off him and now he's sending me creepy PM's.  Proberly a good thing they are gone.

I liked the system with all its limitations. Sure, it happened now and then that it was abused, but 'statistically' it was correct.

Wow.  You can do that?  That is so cool.  Way better than what I came up with.  Top marks.

If you are going to keep them and tweak them, it would be more interesting to see for what post scooby snacks were given and taken away from. Then the moderators could see the people taking scooby snacks away just because they would help them and not give them the answer, and take away their scooby privileges or something.

Enahs - there are a lot of different ways you could change the scooby snack system so you knew what the topic was that inspired the loss or gain.  But if you did know, then the person who took/gave would have a chance of losing anonymity -- no system is going to be perfect, we'll just have to roll with the meager info the Scooby Snack system gives us.
