Title: Effects of acid washing on brass?
Post by: Echooo on January 31, 2010, 11:54:23 PM
I was wondering how brass would be affected when being acid washed.

What happens during acid washing? Does it effect the physical properties of the metal (more brittle, changes size, etc.)?

What I had in mind specifically was 6.25 grams sodium thiosulfate, 50 grams ferric nitrate, and 1 liter of distilled water heated to 120°-140°, with the brass submerged for 1 minute.

If this particular mixture causes changes, are there others that won't?

Thank you for you time.
